On Wednesday, Adrian, Laurel, Kadrie, Robin, and I traveled to Minneapolis. We stayed at Galen and Verla's in the city. They were wonderful hosts, and we enjoyed supper, bible study, and a good night's rest at their house. In the morning, after breakfast on their beautiful patio, we left for the airport. The day passed quickly and smoothly until in Dallas there was a problem with our plane and we were unable to fly to Guatemala until the next morning. We were all disappointed because we were really anticipating arriving in Guatemala that night. I was especially excited to see Esa. Anyway, American Airlines put us in the Radisson for the night and all was fine. We left the next morning at 6 a.m. (A definite low was waking up at 3:30 a.m.)
One thing that happened that really helped us to prepare for all of the Spanish we were to hear was meeting Angela, an elderly lady from Guatemala who was coming home after two months in Los Angeles with her daughter. I noticed Angela in distress after it was announced what was happening. She was really nervous about getting to the hotel, eating supper there, and making the flight in the morning so we helped her as much as we could. This meant bringing Angela to her room, eating supper with her, and retrieving her in the morning to go to the airport. When we said goodbye the next morning she told me once again, thanks for everything and that the three of us were angels sent to help her!
When we arrived in Guatemala we waited for our luggage and breathed a big sigh of relief each time we saw another piece of luggage. We decided we would even be happy with one suitcase of clothes and one suitcase of toiletries between the three of us! All of it arrived though and we walked outside where we had our first taste of feeling like monkeys in a zoo! We only waited a few minutes and then I heard Esa yelling, "Amy!" I breathed a big sigh of relief and ran to gave him a big hug... Esa has been wonderful. Katie, you picked out a good one! :)
*I'm new to this blog program and apparently it isn't too flexible in letting you rearrange photos, add captions, etc.
-The first is the flowers Esa brought to us.
-The second is our messy room during unpacking!
-The third is at Cafe Saul with Esa. We had breakfast there after Esa picked us up.
-The fourth is of Esa, Jacob, and Jerson (spelling?) getting the keys out of Esa's car. Jacob
and Jerson are two of Esa's three brothers.
-The fifth is Kadrie with her yummy crepe at Cafe Saul.
-The sixth is us with Angela after supper at the hotel in Dallas.
More is coming of our adventures in Guatemala! We love it here...
